SLAYERS REVOLUTION:SEASON 4 - DVD Movie

Amazon.com
After an absence of several years, klutzy sorceress Lina Inverse and her nutty friends are back on TV: Slayers Revolution (2008) more or less picks up where the third season of Slayers left off in 1997. Inspector Wizer of the Kingdom of Ruvinagald wants to arrest Lina--for the heinous crime of being Lina Inverse! He's convinced she's responsible for destroying the magic biomorphic tanks that evil Marquess Giocanda hopes to sell to neighboring realms. He's so sure Lina is guilty, he keeps arresting her--even after he sees someone else wreck the tanks. The agent of destruction is Pokota, a diminutive magical creature who looks like an off-model Pokémon. Fighting Wizer and Pokota keeps Lina busy, but she's assisted and impeded by her usual sidekicks: terminally dim swordsman Gourry, chimera Zelgadis, and single-minded advocate of justice Amelia. As Lina and the gang stumble from place to place, director Takashi Watanabe abruptly shifts the tone from slapstick comedy to mawkish sentiment to apocalyptic threat and back. The rambling story provides plenty of pratfalls, magical spells, enormous meals, jokes about Lina's flat chest, and absurd dialogue delivered at top volume: everything fans want and expect from a Slayers adventure. Revolution reunites voice actors Lisa Ortiz (Lina), Eric Stuart (Gourry), Crispin Freeman (Zelgadis), and Veronica Taylor (Amelia), all of whom return effortlessly to their characters. The animation and dialogue over the credits for episode 13 stress that several major plot points in Slayers Revolution remain unresolved, so Lina's many fans can probably expect a fifth season before too long. (Not rated: suitable for ages 13 and older for cartoon violence, occasional profanity and risqué humor) --Charles Solomon

5 out of 5 stars Slayers is back!   June 22, 2010
Lika Laruku (Seattle.)
Pros: Funimation made my day when they retrieved over 90% of the original voice cast from Slayers/Next/Try, & they haven't been assembled in at least 10 years! & even the original Japanese cast is back! So the dub & sub both kick ass. Make sure to watch every episode twice! & they animators were even nice enough to stick with the original art design instead up making it look like a postY2k anime. (Each decade has a destinctive shared style). Despite the manga being way better, I'm giving full stars for the combined efforts of Funimation & JC Staff for not droping a bomb on our nostolgia by alienating a late-come sequal from it's cheriched predecessors.

Cons: The eye shape is a little off, Gourry's last name was changed from Gabriev to Gabrieffe & his voice actor can only seem to pull off the Gourry voice when yelling. The english voice acting of minor unimportant characters is annoying. & the anime itself is a watered-sown variation of the manga (which is way way better) & you get the feeling it's aimed at a younger audience than the manga was. Things happen in the manga that don't happen in the anime & vice versa. That worled fine in Excel Saga, but it's irritating in Slayers.

Other animes you may enjoy: Gokudo, Swordsman Extrordinaire, Sorcerer Hunters, Dragon Half (the much longer manga can only be read online), & Sorcerous Stabber Orphen.

Slayers Revolution is a nice edition to the Slayers universe, thankfully Lina is still Lina <3 along with the respected loveable cast, my only gripe is it's only 13 episodes long.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful   May 16, 2010

It had been a really long time since I watched any slayer's stuff. Watching this was great. The animation is very good and story plot is interesting. It brings in all your favorite old characters. They all act the same as they used to too. I watched Slayer's Excellent right after I watched this again and I have to say this was way better. However, I do believe the voice actor for Lina is different in the English version, but I'm not completely sure. Her voice seems way more alive in this forth season. If you like the Slayer's seasons or even if you don't this is a great anime to watch.

All Slayers seasons are great. That being said, the fourth season to me is lacking a certain something from the older seasons. Slayers Evolution-R (AKA Slayers season 4 part 2) should rap up the story well though.

I must say slayers is 1 of my fav all time anime's but I for 1 was extreamly disapointed in this season for various reasons pokota for 1. This char was like watching a pokeman char ( wich i hate with a passion, never could stand pokeman)to me this was like what they did back in the 70's with staurdays morning cartoons when they did what people call now days kiddying it up. Then their the chars in my copy of season 4 ( the american voice actors) amelia & zel's voice was same as the 1st 3 seasons but lina and gorruy voice was off, now i no that just being a bit nick picky after all the actors are quite a bit older now than when then 1st 3 season were released. But most of all was Lina herself they made her out to be a total nut cake and go crazy about every little thing. She doesnt stop and try to figure out whats goin on she just reacts to everything around her. Now in the 1st 3 seasons Lina would blow ya up in a heart beat if ya made her mad but she used a bit of since in that she tried to figure out what was going on and what needed to be done to save the day & herself this imo wasnt seen in season 4. Also was the fact when her sister is mentioned in 1 of the episodes she has a comlete and total meltdown , this was way over done before when her sister was mention she would freak but nothing to the extent as in season 4. Also i was really hopeing that they would bring her sister in just so we could actually see her and meet the 1 person that Lina was terrafied of. Theirs some good stuff in this season dont get me wrong but i think they went way over board with things like gorruy being worthless without the sword of light for 1 exzample. Also Xellos voice wasnt done by David Moo sorry peep but their no replaceing him , the guy doing his voice now is horrible. Amelia's father differnt voice actor sorry just didnt cut it for me. Then theirs the price way overpriced considering its only 13 episodes but most anime is that way. Then the biggest let down of all for me was no interveiws with the american cast very disapointing. Would i recomnd buying this yes but at a lower price considering i bought the 1st 3 seaons ( wich was 1700+ minets of slayers) for what you are going to pay for this season alone. Does this season have some drawbacks yes but theirs some good stuff also as people have said in their reviews. I for 1 hope season 5 will be a bit better i have watch the 1st 3 or 4 episodes on youtube and i will say it seems to have more of the origanel feel to it. I gave it a low rateing for the reasons i stated above, i for 1 just dont think it comes anywhere near the lvl of quality that the 1st 3 seasons had. The art work is great but that doesnt make up for what it lacks comepared to the 1st 3 seasons & the feel just isnt their imo sadly to say but its slayers and you hafta love it for that reason if no other. It was great to see the group back togeather even if its not quite up to par with the 1st 3 seasons. Theirs more i can say but i think you get a good ideal of what to expect. I really hated giveing this such a bad review but to many peep are saying how great it is and i just dont see it, just because its been over 10 years since season 3 came out.
