Product Description Goku prepares to fight a ruthless race of warriors and Prince Vegeta to save the world from those seeking the powers of the magical dragonballs.
Amazon.com The American reissue of the first Dragon Box includes the reference volume "The Dragon Book" and episodes 1 to 42--all of season 1 (the Vegeta saga) and the first three episodes of season 2 (the Namek saga) of the Dragon Ball Z series. (When the original Dragon Box was released in Japan in 2003, it contained episodes 1 to 147 of Dragon Ball Z, a Son Goku action figure, and the "Dragon Book"--all for ¥100,000, or about $1,100.) As the story opens, the adult Goku learns he's not an Earthling, but a Saiyan from the planet Vegeta. Only three other Saiyans survive, all of them extremely powerful and destructive. Goku slays Raditz with the help of Piccolo but dies in the process. He spends much of the season training in the Other World with King Kai. Piccolo takes over training Goku's son Gohan, anticipating he will have to face the remaining Saiyans, Nappa and Vegeta. The first season of Dragon Ball Z set the pattern of martial arts training, fantasy battles, and slapstick comedy that makes the series so popular. The first episodes of season 2 take Gohan, Krillin, and Bulma to the planet Namek to find an even more powerful set of Dragon Balls that can restore the lives of Tenshinhan, Yamucha, Chaozu, and Piccolo, who were killed by Vegeta during season 1. (Their souls are also training with King Kai.) Funimation remastered Dragon Ball Z from the original prints for their nine boxed sets of the individual seasons. Fans who already have those sets may decide that seeing the series in its original aspect ratio (rather than the widescreen version in the earlier sets) and acquiring the "Dragon Book" warrants buying the new box; viewers who are just discovering Dragon Ball Z will find the Dragon Box a handsomely packaged introduction. This is a good set August 25, 2010 TheLamb Ok first of all those of you that have rated this set a 1 this set is NOT marketed for you. This set is for the fans that wish to view the series the way it was truly meant to be seen. In the orange brick sets the "remastering" is all just over-saturated colors to the point that the details are desroyed. You must accept the show for what it is, it's a 20 year old show the colors are not going to be perfect. But the people that remastered this set got the masters closest to the ones that were used on the japanese dragon boxes it's the best the original picture is going to get. I myself am a fan of the japanese version that's just the first version of the show I saw so this box is perfect for me and maybe for you.
My Wish Has Been Granted...Get yours too! August 23, 2010 Teresa G. Hobbs It's amazing that this Dragon Box is around 30-40 dollars on here, retail it was about 80, and it was just last year it was released!
This is the most amazing incarnation of a Dragon Ball Z release in history.
The picture quality is great and so is the audio.
This set I'll warn you though is strictly for Japanese fans only. It has Japanese audio w/ subtitles and the english dub w/ the japanese score. Meaning if you like the Bruce F. score than you're out of luck for this release.
It's a great set that I'd reccomend to anyone, and at this much of a reducted price (about a 40-50 dollar difference from retail!) it's impossible to decline.
The Dragon Box is here..
very nice box August 14, 2010 Nancy Carter This is a great product. I have loved dragon ball and dragon ball z since i started watching it. This is very good quality of the episodes. IT looks so much better than it does on the computer so i am very happy. It even has a little booklet inside that is just fun to read and is also an episode guide.
Great item for any DragonBall Z fan. August 8, 2010 Dropped_Da_soap Okay not going to bother reviewing much about the product because its great, and was just what I was looking for. And is a lot better collection than the Orange season box setes Funi released before these. These are way better then those, BY FAR.
The 41 episodes look and sound great. The sound is amazing and the visuals are still mostly unedited meaning its as close to the original as you can get.
Now I don't think all are like this, but mine was slightly falling apart when I got it. The DvD cases and disks were fine. But the main yellow box that holds the 2 dvd cases and book that come with it was already falling apart. I mean its still sturdy and everything, but the sticky papers that hold the box together were starting to come off. Meaning soon the box might fall apart. And the book that comes with it was in good condition. Aside from the fact that the pages at the back of the book were starting to fall off the binding off the case when I already got it.
And the art work on the binding of the book felt as if it was coming off.
But I might have just been unlucky and gotten a bad egg. Cause I doubt this happened to all of them. But rest assured, that despite the problems that came with mine, they have nothing to do with the overall quality of the product.
Perfection at last July 27, 2010 Chris What can I say but Funimation I love you guys for bringing this set out. It feels like I'm in Japan watching this on TV. The picture (with all it's grain and detail back, yes it's grainy because it was shot on 16mm film but the grain adds an edge to this show sorely lacking in the restored faux 16:9 sets), sound (hey it's mono but I can live with that) and more importantly the original title sequences. Already I'm noticing the first episodes opening sequence is slightly different (No Vegeta and Nappa walking in the ice for anyone who's noticed :) ). The music is all there too and no air guitar american riffs either. I am watching this now after having finished watching my Region 4 Australian Dragon Ball sets and I now feel a continuity of storyline I lost with the older orange boxes of DBZ.
The whole package is awesome too. God guys please do the original Dragonball like this too. It's a way more funnier show that deserves this treatment. Your blue boxes are nowhere near as good as these Dragon Boxes are for DBZ.
